In this post, I'll be sharing my Herbalife story for those who are interested in the Herbalife opportunity. My story includes how I got started, the various results I've achieved since 2013, and how I can help others reach their own health and fitness goals!
How I Got Started with Herbalife
At the end of 2012, I quit my 9-5 job and started my own design business because I wanted to be my own boss, do work that I truly loved and have the ability to work from anywhere.
I went into entrepreneurship with excitement, confidence and maybe even a touch of arrogance... only to be deeply humbled by this 6 months later, when all of my savings ran out and I realized I wasn't as good at marketing myself as I originally thought I was. I definitely had a lot more to learn.
Stress took over my life and I suffered for months from insomnia. I was working so hard, yet I still couldn't seem to figure out how to get clients or make enough money to pay my bills... which made me feel like such a failure. And the most difficult part was that I didn't really know what I could do to make things better for myself or how long I was going to have to suffer like this for.
I was in over my head and felt like I was drowning... so I turned to food for comfort.
By July of 2013, I had gained 20lbs., I had no energy, I still couldn't sleep and I felt like absolute shit.
That's when I realized something had to change.
I didn't want to quit and go back to a 9-5 job, so I went looking for the next best thing I could think of; a flexible, part-time job that would help supplement my income.
This lead me to Craigslist where I ended up finding two different opportunities for side jobs that sounded interesting to me. One was driving with Lyft, and one was for learning how to be a health coach.
I ended up signing up to drive with Lyft first, which turned out to be a nice little way to make some extra income and fast.
Over the next month or so, I found myself debating whether I should respond to the health coaching opportunity or not. By the end of August, I reached a point where I felt ready to try something new and I figured why not give the health coach thing a try and just see what happens?
I've always been interested in health and fitness and so I imagined, at the very least, it would be a fun way to meet some new people, stay active and start feeling better. Plus, if I could essentially get paid to workout and get my own results, what could be better than that?! I had always been an athlete but I never really learned the nutritional side of things, so I figured this was a great opportunity to finally get the health and fitness results I have always wanted.
So I pulled the trigger and responded to the ad I originally found on Craigslist... and that's the day my life completely changed for the better. 🙂
My Introduction to the Products + Business Opportunity
In August of 2013, I went to my first STS (Success Training Seminar) which basically introduces a large group of people to the Herbalife opportunity in an efficient way.
I learned how the products worked, heard live testimonials from other members (who were ecstatic about their own results!) and learned how I could earn some extra money working part-time as a health coach.
The information was really intriguing so I decided to take the next step and got myself registered as an Herbalife member under the person who introduced me (the person who posted that Craigslist ad I found).
In order to become a health coach and "do the business," I also had to get on my own customized nutrition program, which made sense... I needed to experience the products for myself so I could not only get a feel for how they worked but also get my own results.
I was taught that all I really needed to do was get my own results and then those results would essentially sell the products for me. I liked this business model because it meant I wouldn't really have to "sell" anything. As someone who has always had a tendency to run from anyone who seems too "pushy," "desperate," or "salesy," this seemed like a really good fit for me.
I could lead others by example; people would see my results, then ask me what I've been doing, and then I'd just suggest a few products to get them started and go from there. Simple. 🙂
So I began by doing a health evaluation with my coach (the person I registered under) who then suggested a customized nutrition program I could start with, based on my answers.

My Personal Herbalife Results
That first night I ended up sleeping like a rock, and for the first time in what seemed like FOREVER. It was seriously one of the best feelings in the world!
I then went on to follow my customized nutrition plan, having 2 shakes a day, taking my tablets and watching my calorie intake a little more closely (I tracked my calories and exercise using the My Fitness Pal app.) Sometimes I'd get creative and use the shake mix to make some different kinds of meals, like healthy protein pancakes, protein waffles or mug cakes (because I like to EAT and personally don't always want to drink my meals.)
Over the next few weeks, I started feeling a LOT better and was loving how much energy I had! I felt alive again and was getting really excited to see what kind of results I could achieve over time!

At the time I weighed about 160 lbs. at 5'7" so I followed Plan C - Weight Loss.
Here Are My Initial Results
Joining the Free Fit Clubs
Before Herbalife, I was just going to the gym by myself, which got a bit boring after a while and kind of became un-motivating.
After I started Herbalife, I decided to join in on the free fit clubs that were being offered in San Diego at the time, which I found to be a lot of fun! The energy was high, we all pushed each other and everyone was so positive and helpful. 🙂 Plus, I got to meet so many new people!
In November of 2013, I Joined the FREE 1-Month Herbalife Fit Challenge
This included things like:
- 12 group fitness classes (3 times a week for 4 weeks)
- Body scan analysis
- Health evaluation
- Personal health coach
- Meal plan guidance
- Before and after pics
- Awards and prizes
Here are my results after the first month:
Within my first 6 months, I was down 12lbs., lost 6% body fat and gained 4% muscle.* 🙂
*People who use Herbalife Formula 1 twice a day as part of a healthy lifestyle can generally expect to lose around half a pound to 1 pound per week.
Over six years later, I'm still using Herbalife products and still achieving new results!

It's crazy to look back and see all these old pictures of me; so much has changed! I can't believe this is what I looked like before I started Herbalife... it's a bit embarrassing to put these before photos up online but I'm doing it in hopes of inspiring others and showing them what's possible. 🙂
I've learned that achieving results does not necessarily mean changing the # on the scale, it's more about about changing your overall body composition.
For example, in the picture above, there's only about a 7 lb. difference in weight, but the reason I look more "toned" is because I've replaced fat with lean muscle.
A pound of muscle is denser than a pound of fat, so it takes up less volume.
Here's what 5 lbs. of fat looks like VS what 5 lbs. of lean muscle looks like:
More lean muscle, less fat = a smooth and toned look!
So as you work towards your goals, it's important to understand and expect that the # on the scale might stay the same or even increase over time. This is why it might be a better idea to take monthly pictures and/or take measurements with a body measuring tape periodically... so you can actually see the results and get out of that scale-weight mindset.
Once I had success with fat loss, I then decided to start trying to gain some muscle... and ended up gaining most of the weight back, BUT most of that weight was actually lean muscle mass!
In the photos below, I weighed about 10 lbs. more in the last photo than I did in the first photo, but I look much more shapely and toned! 🙂 This took me almost a year to accomplish, but I stuck to my nutrition plan and stayed consistent in the gym, and with all that hard work and discipline I was able to accomplish what I set out to do!
The more lean muscle you have, the more fat and calories your body will naturally burn at rest. So an awesome side effect of increasing my muscle mass was a higher metabolism... which means I can now eat more! And as a foodie, that's a pretty nice perk to me. 😉
I used to eat around 1,500 calories a day, but now I can easily eat over 2,000-2,500 calories a day, on average, and not gain fat.
Notice I didn't say "gain weight." This is because gaining pounds on the scale isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially if you're putting on lean muscle! Remember, muscle is denser and takes up less volume than fat, so you could be "gaining weight" on the scale but your clothes might be fitting looser because there's less fat on your body!
By the way, Rebuild Strength is my favorite post-workout shake! I actually like to drink it like hot chocolate... it seriously tastes SO GOOD!
How I'm Helping Others Reach Their Own Health + Fitness Goals
I've learned how to market myself online (so I never ended up having to go back to a 9-5 job!) and still work from home today as my own boss.
I have been able to make online health coaching through Herbalife a nice little part-time business on the side and only work the business from home (or from wherever I travel to). I can also make my own schedule and basically work as little or as much as I want!
Sticking with Herbalife was the best thing I could have done because my business has really taken off over the past few years, which is SUPER FREAKIN' EXCITING! I even qualified for the Herbalife Vacation to Disney World in 2017 and the Herbalife Vacation to Punta Cana in 2018!
